Hello,

Does anyone know how much emphasis is placed on being qualified to work in a job that you have gained your one year of work experience in? For example, if I work as a carpenter, perform all the duties described for a carpenter in the NOC, but am not a qualified carpenter? Would CIC accept it with supporting letters from my employer?

Thanks for your help.

Well, it depends a lot on the actual occupation, so this answer holds only for carpenters. Carpenter is one of those occupations with a mandatory apprenticeship and a certain number of years of experience to become certified. Certification is voluntary in every province except Quebec. So not being certified should NOT be used against you. Of course, it is certainly a good thing to have, or be working towards...

1. Except that in the OP's case s/he is not a qualified carpenter, most likely be classified as a carpenter's helper. NOC 7611
