hie i was offered a job recently by a company in canada and i am meant to have my work permit processed by their lawyers and they are asking for USD$ 600.Why can't the company pay the processing fees for me is this legal.And the lawyers are asking me to make this payment through moneygram or western union to their credit controllers

Be wary about these things. It can be a scam. Don't pay them yet. check their legality.

Sounds like a scam to me. If the company chooses to hire lawyers or consultants to do their paperwork, that is their business and they can pay for it. They are not allowed to charge the employee for it.

I have heard of workers having already been brought over but wanted to quit before the end of their contract and the employer tried to bill them for $1600 he said was the expenses he paid for an agency to do their paperwork but this is completely illegal. They refused to pay and the employer couldn't do anything.
