Hi there,

I'm trying to figure out how it works with foreign exams? I'm from Denmark, dental hygienist, 29 yrs old and looking to move to Vancouver next summer..
I've lived and worked in London UK for the past 4 years. Does anyone know if I need to take new exams to be able to work in Canada? And where to go to get the work permit? How long do I get a work permit for? Do I need to have a job in Vancouver before applying or can I look when I get there?

Confused :) I'm going to Canada 3 weeks in february so will have a look around for jobs etc.

1. Well the first thing you will have to do is have your credentials evaluated by the Canadian Dental Accreditation Committee http://www.cda-adc.ca/en/cda/cdac/
2. They will determine if your course of studies will allow you to apply for accreditation or how much additional training will be required.
3. IF you require additional training, you will have to apply to a Dental Hygienists school, pay the fees, and obtain a study permit.
4. If you don't require additional training, you will have to apply for registration, find an employer who is will to obtain a Labour Market Opinion (LMO) that there are no Canadian or PRs available for the position and they have advertised extensively. (10-16 weeks) If they get a positive LMO, then you would have to apply for a work permit at the office responsible for your country of residence and take a medical exam be for the permit would be issued.

Hi,
I noticed that you are from Denmark.
I work as a dental hygienist in Montreal, Canada.
My husband got a job offer in Copenhagen so we are considering rellocating to Denmark.
Therefore I have some questions for you, if you are so kind to answer me.
Do I have to pass exams in order to obtain the practicing licence?
Can I start practice in English exclusively or do I have to learn Danish first?
I would also like to know about the salary. Here for example I make 28 CAD/h ~ 20 Euro. How much is the salary for a dental hygienist in Danemark( in and near Copenhagen, if that differs much from other regions)?
