Hi All
I have a question which I hope can be answered.
I am on a temporary work permit here in B.C. I am paying long term disability out of my wages however I am unsure if I should be?

As I understand it I can only claim this after 120 days and if I am unable to do any work due to permanent incapacity.
however if I am on a work visa and am unable to work does this become invalid and would i be required to leave the country as work is my reason for being allowed in the country in the first place?
Also if it does become invalid I would not be able to claim EI either for those 120 days prior to an LTD payout as I would be here illegally ?

So really my question is should I be paying this LTD as I might not be able to claim it anyway? Also the company who do this now inform me that if I am not in Canada they will not pay out anyway!!

Need help on this please anyone as I really don't know where me and my family stand on this.

Thanks Nick

hi Nick,

I believe that as long as you possess a valid work permit they cannot send you home. Is your work permit expiring soon?.
