Hi,

Can someone please explain to me how a work permit through the IEC differs from a regular work permit?

A work permit is a work permit right? regardless of how it was issued.

I'm currently in a situation where i either want to extend my work permit or change to visitor status.

An IEC and a regular work permit are quite different. You can apply for an IEC without having a job offer in Canada and once you are approved, you can work for any employer you want to.

To qualify to apply for a regular work permit, you first need a job offer in Canada and then your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA. Once the work permit is approved, you are only allowed to work for that specific employer.

That makes perfect sense! thankyou.

I just want to make sure i am considering all my options before i have to stop working while i wait for my LMIA.
