Hello All, I am on a work permit in Canada and that expires in Dec 2012. Now I got an offer and LMO from a different company and am willing to transfer or move. So if I apply for new work permit, what will be the start date on my new Work Permit? as my offer letter doesn't mention start date. I wanted to give a 2 weeks notice to my current employer once I get the new work permit. But am assuming, if I get the new work permit with current date as start date, my old work permit will be automatically expired and I cannot give notice and work for my old company any more.

Please advice if have to mention start date in offer letter with future date including the 2 weeks notice and processing time, so that I will be on the old companies work permit and can give 2 weeks notice based on the new work permit start date.

Please advice.

Thanks,

You can start working for the new employer as soon as the work permit is issued. You are allowed to overlap with a notice period. I would not resign until you have been approved for the new work permit. A short overlap for the notice period will not have a negative effect on you.

Hi,

I need to ask some questions, please give me an advice and infos. I sent you a personal message. Thanks!

Thanks rjessome, So do you think it will not be any problem if I give a notice once I get work permit? That would be a great help as I wouldnt take risk of giving notice even before I get work permit.

Please confirm.
