Hi guys,
I'm posting for my fiance here because he's having some trouble securing a work permit. I'll try and be as concise as possible.
He's on a student visa currently until July 31 2012 for a private photography school that is not listed under the list of schools where you can get a study/work permit. Basically his only option is to get a separate work permit. He's secured a verbal job offer from Starbucks(who I also work for at a different location). Starbucks has told him that they need him to get the permit before moving forward. Is this not backwards? Doesn't the applicant require the offer in writing (and for the employer to go through the immigration database process where they claim he's not stealing a job from a citizen) first to apply for the permit? I don't understand how he's supposed to be able to get a job if they are requiring him to do things in a manner which seems impossible. What should we do? Or does anyone know of employers willing to hire foreigners the proper way? Thanks everyone!
