Hi,

I am travelling to Canada later this year, and as well as going to see the country, i will also be doing some coaching with some Canadian athletes to help prepare them for a competition in Australia later in the year. Do i need a work permit? I'm only there for three weeks, I have my ETA approved and my return flights are booked. This is completely voluntary and i am covering all costs.

The CI site is a mine field, and information seems to contradict itself a little?

Thanks in advance

Yes, you will be needing a work permit. You are basically taking away work from any other Canadian coach. It is considered work even though you are not charging for it.

Generally, yes, you would require a work permit to train Canadian athletes.

An exception would be if there is a reciprocity agreement, i.e. does the organization you are planning to work with in Canada send coaches to do the same thing with your organization in Australia? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/tools/temp/work/opinion/reciprocal.asp
