Hi there!
I have 2 questions concerning my upcoming stay in Vancouver, as I am not sure, what documents/permits I will need.
My situation is as follows:
I will be in Vancouver for less than 6 months (Oct '12 - March '13).
I'm from a visa exempt country.
I will be doing research related to my Masters thesis at the University of British Columbia as a visiting scholar.
At UBC I will not receive any salary.
I have a scholarship which supports me with a monthly financial aid,
but the major financial part is self-funded.
Q1: I have seen that self-funded researchers do not need a work-permit, thus a visitor status would be sufficient. Will I need a work permit due to the financial support from the scholarship?
Q2: If yes, I saw that I will not need a positive labor market opinion, as I won't have any salary in Canada. Thus, can I get my work permit at the port of entry when I arrive in Canada?
I am looking forward to your answers, cause I am getting a little desperate here with my endless todo-list!
