Work permit renewal while in PNP process

My work permit expires at the end of February. I just renewed my passport and received a BC PNP file number a few weeks ago.

My file should be processed in the next week or two based on the timeline in the email from the BC government.

I know I need to renew my work permit, but I'm a little unsure and don't want to make a mistake and create more headaches for myself.

My understanding is that I need to provide CIC with a file number for my PNP application and that should make getting a work permit extension/renewal much simpler. Any assistance on this matter is much appreciated.

What type of visa do you hold now? Do you have a LMO?
You PNP application can not be used to get you a new permit until it's approved

If you have received a positive eligibility decision on your PNP application, you can apply for a Bridging Open Work Permit.

A positive eligibility decision for PNP is: the “Eligibility EC-QC/PNP” status has been set to “Passed” or the Acknowledgment of Receipt letter/e-mail has been sent by the Centralized Intake Office (CIO)

Thanks for your reply. My employer sought and received a positive LMO last year. That enabled my permit to be renewed for another year. I was originally here on a TFW program contract under non-skilled worker.

Thanks for replying to my post. I have not received any response yet from the government other than a file number. The intial processing of my file should be complete in the next week or two. I don't know what that means, but that is the guideline the government indicated in their initial email.

I just don't want to be without a work permit. Like most of us here, I need to continue working.

I'm not very familiar with PNP but I am guessing that the initial processing you mention above is what you will require to apply for a BOWP. You should give CIC a call to find out for sure.

If your LMO is still valid then you could apply for an extension to your current visa but if not then your going to need either another LMO or wait until your PNP nomination comes through.

I guess if if it came to it you could apply to extend your work permit even if your LMO is not valid anymore. Obviously your extension request will be refused but you could continue to work under implied status until you get that decision. This would hopefully give your PNP time to come through and give you time to apply for a new visa based on your nomination.

Maybe someone else has some further advise but I don't think there are any other options for you if your job requires a LMO

The wait time for BC nomination is pushing almost 4 months right now, I don't know when you applied but it is possible that your visa may expire before nomination
