Work Permit Question

Good morning,

I am currently working in Canada with a work permit. if I need to renew this permit will I need to re-submit an application via the government in order to get a new one when the current one expires?

I am a US Citizen, and I am in the IT field, usually I am LMO exempt.

The last few times my company lawyers just have me go to the port of entry with a letter saying I have a job offer and my credentials.

If I were to do it independantly, could I do the same? I am not sure i the lawyers sent any forms the government before I got to the border.

If anyone has any ideas that would be very helpful.

Thank you

You have to extend your work permit.

1) from inside Canada, send your application to CPC, Vegreville (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/extend-worker.asp). Since your job is LMO exempt you just need the job offer and supporting funds.

2) since you are an US citizen you can apply for the work permit at the port of entry (as you enter Canada). You would need job offer and supporting funds. (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/work/apply-who-eligible.asp#enter)
