Hi, I am a sponsor for my common in law partner and we are waiting for a response from our visa office to receive a permanent residency for him. I just wanted to know once he gets the approval, does he then apply for a work permit from outside canada or can it be done once we get to canada?? I just see so many different answers that I am confused :( Does he need to apply for a job first and then the employer deals with it or can we start this process now??

I just want to be prepared as much as we can...thanks to anyone for their great help,
Ana

Job Offer........
Pre-Assessed..
If you are sponsoring him for PR through the visa office in his country, then he will not get a work permit. He will go straight to PR and then he will not need a work permit.

yes i have sponsored him right from the paris office. So just to clear it up, if he gets the PR he is automatically able to work without having to go through applying for work permits??

thanks for your help

Yes, he will get a PR visa and he will need to go to Canada to "land" as a PR. After that he can get a SIN and apply for jobs. A PR has almost all the same rights as a citizen except he can't vote. He could lose the PR if he leaves Canada for more than 3 years in a 5 year period or if he commits a crime.
