Hi guys,

I would need your advice. My sister is a Canadian citizen and her boyfriend is from Slovakia. He is a professional hockey player and he has been training children for a few years now.
He would like to join my sister in Canada, Montreal, and they are not sure what would be the best way to apply. Should he apply as PR or get a work permit or is there anything else which could be easier for him?
Thank you very much for your help! I appreciate it!

Hi

They must be either married or common-law (lived together continuously for at least a year) to qualify for spousal sponsorship.

A work permit can be difficult to get, especially now that they just reformed the Temporary Foreign Worker Program. He would need to find an employer willing to go through the complicated and expensive LMIA process in order to hire him.

Other than that, he can come as a visitor, keeping in mind that he cannot work.
