Hi All

I'm in a pretty tight situation, and I sincerely apologise if this is in the wrong forum.

I (British citizen) was convicted of a DUI in the UK in Aug 2006, since then I completed my driving ban and the fines associated with the conviction.

Recently I married a Canadian citizen (who lives and works in Toronto), and was given a job at a University in Ontario as a Post doctoral researcher. So applied for a work permit and was duly rejected on basis of the DUI.

I've been contacting immigration lawyers to see the best way to proceed and most have said they'll take my case but never mentioned the success or which method they'll use to let me join my wife. Others have said spousal visa or PR but I don't think the job offer will last the amount time required to get those visa's (6 months or more).

I have a few questions:
Are there any immigration lawyers on this forum that could help?

What are the best ways to proceed?

I am rehabilitated in mind but not on paper is there anything I can do to show rehabilitation?

Any advice will do!

1. You may think you are rehabilitated, but CIC/CHC says you aren't until 5 years have passed since the completion of the sentence. Then you can apply for rehab.
2. Your only choice now is that she sponsors you and you would have to apply for TRP (Temporary Resident Permit) which would allow you to remain in Canada with her until you are eligible for rehabilitation.
3. You might want to start your reading here; http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/rehabil.asp This has the link to the forms to obtain a TRP.
