Work permit for refugee claimant

Hello,

One of my friend has claimed refugee at Montreal and he is living in Ottawa. He has received a date of hearing in April 2024 He was told to do medical exam within 30 days which he has completed. He is confused about the work permit whether he can get it or not. Can he apply for the work permit and what is the process of applying for it ?

When he had eligibility interview, did he say he needed a work permit?
On the forms it also states do you need a work permit did he check that off?

Usually, it comes in the mail if you said yes to work permit or told them you needed one during eligibility

Thanks for the reply. He does not remember whether he checked the work permit mark or not. Is there any way to check it now ?

Yes when you have eligibility interview they return the form copies back to the person
