Work Permit for EU Citizens

Hi There

I am an Indian national (Goa) expecting my Portuguese passport early next year, which will automatically make me a EU citizen. Thereafter, I plan to migrate to Canada. I would like to get some information on the below.

1) How long can I stay in Canada for and while I am there can I apply for a work permit.

2) Can I apply for a PR while I am on a temporary work permit?

3) My skills are mostly in Administration and I have over 10 year of experience working in the UAE. Are there jobs in Administration easily available in Canada.

4) I have a brother who has already got his PR and has been living in Canada for the last 10 years would that help with obtaining a work permit.

1) How long you are allowed to stay will be determined by the CBSA officer you speak to when you arrive. Visitors are often given a full 6 month visit. However the CBSA officer may chose to give you a shorter visit. Make sure it doesn't look like you're planning on remaining in Canada long term when you arrive and have a two way ticket. You can obtain a work permit if you qualify. To qualify, you need to secure a full time job offer and your employer needs to obtain an approved LMIA. The LMIA process is long (often 4-6 months) and expensive for the employer. The employer also has to prove no Canadian could be found for the role. Most employers aren't willing to go through the process.

2) Yes you can. Process is the same whether you apply inside or outside of Canada. Process of applying won't change or become easier after you become an EU citizen. It's the same for everyone.

3) I would guess it will probably be very difficult to get a work permit for this kind of job.
