Hello,

I'm an American citizen seeking employment in BC. Many of the jobs opportunities I am looking at (Web Development) tend to be on a contract basis. I asked a lawyer I have talked to previously regarding immigration issues whether I could take a a job on a contract basis, and her response was I couldn't because it is considered self employment. I found that answer a bit strange because I'm pretty sure you can do that in the States, and after some reading online I'm under the impression she is not correct (at $250/hour).

Can I apply for a LMO and work visa for a contract job?

TIA :)

No, because you need an employer to apply for the LMO and you have to work for that employer.

Thanks for the response. Rereading my post I see I misstated a few things.

I would be working up to FT for the employer and they would be the one applying for the LMO. I apologize for the confusion. Many of the contracts are open ended, some are 6, 8, or 12 months.
