Work permit Extention

Hi,

I have put my file in express entry and my profile score is 443. I dont see cut off getting down anytime soon. My work permit is about to expire in February 2017. I came to know that they will only extend my work permit if I have received an invitation and AOR. Since I dont have any of them I see that my work permit extension application will get rejected. I'm married and my wife is not here in canada. She is in india. She works for a canadian company and she has chances that her company might send her here on work permit. To my understanding, she will get a close work permit. My question is, if she gets a close work permit, can I apply for my work permit as dependent? Will it be close work permit or open work permit? Is there any other way for me to extend my work permit? I know that LMIA is one way.

Hi Ronu,

Even though your wife gets a close work permit, you will get a open work permit till her work permit end date.

Thanks for quick reply. I tried looking online on CIC and they do not say about close work permit and open work permit. Can anyone else confirm this?

Who can apply for an open work permit?
You may be eligible for an open work permit if you are in one of the following situations:

Permanent residence applicants who have applied to an office in Canada,
Dependent family members of some permanent residence applicants,
Spouses and common-law partners of some workers and international students,
Refugees, refugee claimants, protected persons and their family members,
Some temporary resident permit holders, or
Some young workers participating in special programs.
In each of these situations, you must meet additional criteria to be eligible.
