Hi,
I'm in Canada as a Temporary Worker, I've came 3 months ago, and I didn't need a LMO, because of my profession (Software Product Developer) was in exemption list of professions. Now my current employer want to extend my contract, but after immigration changes from June 26, 2010 my profession is no longer in this list, and it's said, that anyone who want to apply for work permit extension should provide LMO along with other documents... Does it mean that now I need to apply for LMO to extend my work permit? Or this is only for workers who have LMO, and want to extend their work permit?

Thank you in advance!

Changes will come into effect in October 2010. Note that it is the employer who applies for the LMO once the changes are implemented.

If you need to extend now then you still do not need a LMO for the extension.

You need to sign a new contract with your employer. Send the application package to CPC- Vegreville together with the receipt. Keep copies for yourself of whatever documents you send.

You also need to attach a letter from your employer letting the officer know s/he still needs your services.

Hi Job_seeker,
Do we have any comment in the above links, saying that to extend workpermit with currentemployer, we do not need a LMO. Can you please refer to that point.

I searched all the websites, they are telling that they need LMO for all kind of workpermits.so, bit confused here...

Thanks,
seven

It was the live in Caregivers continuing to work for the same employer don't require a new LMO see: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/ip/ip04-eng.pdf Sec. 8.2

Thanks PMM.

My initial workpermit was issued in 2009, and that time we do not need LMO. I have applied for PR based on that arranged employment and still waiting for the decision to be made on my applicaiton. So, not sure if I need to apply for LMO to extend my work permit or not. my work permit expires in another 3 months. So bit worried about that. If I need LMO, I am not sure how my employer reacts...

any suggestions???

Assuming you are an IT worker, you require an LMO.

Yes, I am IT worker...so need to go for LMO.. :o :o.

have another 3 months and my PR application is in process...so all tight..will ask employer to start applying LMO...thanks for your suggestion PMM..

Your employer also has to advertise the position at the job bank and make sure that there is no Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident qualified/applied for the job.
