Work Permit extension - what are the consequences of rejection?

Hi!

I'm working in accordance with a postgraduate Work Permit (open). It will expire in two weeks. As I know generally such types of WP cannot be extended. But I was thinking to apply for WP extension anyways just to get additional 2-3 month to work while being on implied status.

However, in case if my application is considered as incomplete and rejected it will mean that I worked these 2-3 month illegally. Will it affect in future my application for PR if I get ITA. I mean what can be a negative consequences of such a situation?
May I avoid this situation if in any case I will apply for a status restoration within 90 days after my original WP expiration?
Thanks for explanation!

trust me buddie, CIC is really smart, if you throw in an application for work permit extension, the turn around time for rejection will be really fast (couple of days, maybe 2weeks speaking from experience), they will not follow the processing time frame they have online. Its best not to get to that point.

You should consider other options like switching to visitor visa while you search for an employer who can offer LMIA. If you have a PR application in-process at the moment then you can apply for BOWP.

Speaking from personal experience, I applied for a BOWP without an AOR and they actually waited extra long (3 more weeks, at the time of rejection, ON CIC website they were working on cases submitted a month after the date i submitted, 3 weeks earlier they were working on cases submitted the week of my submission, but I didn't get a rejection) to reject me.
I wrote a very personal letter saying my EE profile was only 6 points away from the cut-off score in the latest round of invitation.
However, I didn't get an ITA after, the score went all the way up after I submitted.
It always depends on the officer, sometimes you get a nice one who can put you on hold for a little bit even tho it's against the rule. We're all humans after all.

I was going to apply for this extension on papers as the processing time is 115 days now (in opposite to 30 days if you apply online). I also was going to provide an explanation letter that I'm just 12 points away from CRS minimum for getting an ITA.

So I don't have PR application in process because I don't have an ITA yet and that's why I don't have a right to apply for a bridging work permit.

Applying for a visitor visa is an option but in this case I will not be permitted to work. So my plan was if my WP extension application is rejected (after my original WP expires) I will apply for a status restoration (visitor status). Just would like to understand what is the risk here and consequences and if they may affect my PR application later.

My situation is similar - I'm just 12 points away from the the last CRS minimum. And I also was going to write a detailed explanation letter. But I think I have no write to apply for a BOWP without having applied for PR. I thought I can only try to apply for my current WP extension (without any hope though).

So what did you do after your application was rejected? Did you got a record that you was overstaying and working illegally? did you apply for a status resoretion after?
I just would like to understand what is the risk here and consequences and if they may affect my PR application later (if I get a chance to apply).

I didn't need extra work experience to complete the extra 12-month cycle for more points so I quit my job a month before the rejection. And also applied for a restoration of status as a visitor (Visitor Record) before the rejection. I applied for a student visa later on after receiving the visitor record. There was no problem for me to get VR or the Student Visa. Now I'm doing the PR application and we'll see how this one goes.

I also don't need an extra work for the points. I need it for the income to live here in Canada.

And I didn't got: did you work after you original PW expired or not? So was this considered as illegal work if you got rejection?

Do you know what happens if you apply for a status restoration after being rejected with an application for WP extension?

Sorry for so many questions - I'm a little bit lost with all this stuff and don't know what to do to avoid worsening the situation on the one hand but keeping earning for life on another hand...
