Work Permit expired and I WORKED.

Hello All,

I have been on an open work permit and was working at a company. I applied to get a new work permit. but got rejected. it appears that I could no longer get an open work permit and this time I need to get an LMO.

My work permit expired on Aug 5th, and I received the letter on Sept 2nd. my employer already paid & issued me for the month of august. but from the time I received the letter I stopped working.

Since you are not allowed to work while you don't have a valid work permit. did I violate the law by working on the month of august, without knowing that I'm no longer able to work till I get my LMO ? Will this cause me a problem when I want to apply for PR?

You were under implied status until you received the rejection letter. So any money earned for work done in August till Sep 2nd, won't be a problem. It's good that you have stopped working.

Ask your employer to apply for the LMO asap. If you get a file or confirmation number from HRDSC, use it to apply for restoration and new work permit and make sure you apply before the 90 day restoration period is over. If you don't you will have to leave Canada and apply from your home country.

my concern is regarding the date.
the date on the letter reads august 17th, but I read the letter on sept 2nd. haven't checked the mail. is that a problem?

There are delays in delivery of mail and if you received the letter on Sep 2nd, then it's what it is. The important thing is you stopped working thereafter. Eventhough it's dated Aug 17th there is no way you could have received it on the same date, right? Relax.
