Work Permit Expiration

Hi!
I have an IEC Young Professional (closed) work permit. I got this for my studies in Denmark which are going to be finished in January 2018. I had a signed agreement with the company that I will be employed from July until beginning of December this year. But my work permit and my visa (stamp) in my passport are both valid until January 2019.
Unfortunately the company didn't offer me a position afterwards and as I know I can't change my work permit to a new company, because my original agreement will be finished with the company, so I have no reason for changing to a new one. (I hoped I can finish the 1 year Canadian work experience for PR, but this way I don't think I have any option to do it)
I was told that despite the visa in my passport, at the end of my employment in December, I lose my status in Canada because I won't be employed anymore. Is it true?

This is not true, you can stay in Canada for as long as your WP is valid. You lose your status only when your WP expires or if you are under a removal order. However, you cannot work for another employer or study (unless you change your status first).

This said, if you leave and re-enter Canada after losing your job, you might be in trouble as the border officer will probably ask you if you still work in Canada.

Thanks for your answer Binabik. So that means if I want to come back for a while I should figure out how I can apply for a visitor visa.
