Hello everyone,

My husband's work permit expires on Sunday, the LMO is in progress and we hope to receive it in the next couple weeks. We have sent in the application to extend the work permit with the Job Offer Letter referencing the file number of the LMO in progress.

Because he is American, I hear you can just go to a border to get the work permit issued on the spot as long as you have the LMO and job offer letter.

We live in the Toronto area - does anyone know if we can just go the Toronto Airport and see customs there to get it issued or do we have to actually drive to the US and get it done at a border crossing?

Thanks!

No - you can't do it at Pearson. To do this at Pearson, you would have to be flying into Canada on an international flight.

Thank you scylla - much appreciated!

You might be better off popping down to Niagara and flag-poling, if that's acceptable for this type of status transition.

Yup - I think we are going to make the trek to Buffalo as soon as the LMO comes in (fingers crossed it's positive.) The processing time for renewals with same company is 88 days and that's too long to go without OHIP - so we want to get this done ASAP.

It's a nice drive, as long as you don't look at Hamilton as you go past :D

LOL! True story!

Hi There! My husband is in the EXACT same situation - did you try the "flag-pole" option, we are thinking of doing this - ie - driving over the border in Niagara, and driving back with the positive/active LMO. Did this work for you?
