Hi,
I am a US physician who will be starting a fellowship program in Canada in July. The online processing time for the work permit application is estimated to be 14 weeks - which is cutting it somewhat close to my start date!
I was wondering if I could get my work permit at the Niagara border station when I cross in March to look for housing etc?
My questions are:
1. I am planning to bring all of the documents required for the online application (including the completed application form, LMIA exemption, employment contract, proof that I meet the requirements of the job etc) to the border. Is this sufficient?
2. I am required to have a medical exam which I have had done by a panel physician 2 months ago and have been given the e-medical info sheet. If I bring this to the border will it be sufficient to full the medical exam requirement at the border?
3. Can I upload the online application for the work permit but also apply at the border? I'd like to apply both ways to make sure I don't lose anytime if there is an issue at the border. If I do apply online and then again at the border, will border application be rejected? Will I have to pay the processing fee twice if I submit online and also at the border?
Thanks in advance for your help!
