I’ve logged into the Immigration and Citizenship website tonight and discovered my open work permit has been approved.

I entered Canada on an eta in May with dual intent and submitted a family sponsorship application with the attached open work permit.

I haven’t received any correspondence at this stage but I’m 7 days away from being 30 days out from the end of my 6 months.

I’m not sure correspondence will arrive from Ontario in time (we’re in Nova Scotia) so not sure if I still need to apply for a visitor record/ visa to extend my stay.

Can someone please offer some advice or point me to where I may be able find out the process I need to follow.

Thanks

You don't need to apply for anything. The work permit should arrive in the mail shortly.

I received correspondence through the Immigration and Citizenship website this evening confirming the Work Permit and ETA extension.

The letter includes an interesting comment:

A study or work permit is not a travel document. To allow you to travel to or re-enter Canada by air only, we have issued you an Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) when we issued your permit extension.

I'd like to understand what I would need to do be able to go down to the States before I receive PR. Is anyone able to offer some advice?

Thanks

You don't need to do anything. You have an eTA to travel to Canada.
