Work Permit App. Returned With No Time To Restore My Status - Help!

Hello all, I'm currently employed (with the same employer) and have been living in Canada for the past 4 years. Nearly every year I reapply or extend my work permit, I've done this about 4 times already.

I sent off my Work Permit extension application on April 6th, my work permit expires on April 27th. You're allowed to stay and work in Canada until you receive your work permit (as its being processed). I'm used to the 1/2 month turnaround, but this time it took almost 4 months.

After the very long processing times, my application was returned back to me for being incomplete for a missing signature I forgot to sign (was an honest mistake). Paper was written to me on July 24th

Paper says

"We cannot take any action in your case until such time as you resubmit your entire application with a copy of this letter and the following item(s):

[X] You must sign your application form."

Below that, the paper mentions applying for restoration of status within 90 days from the expiry of your temporary resident status. 90 days from April 27th is July 26th, which is passed the time I can apply, and I received the document July 27th.

I am so confused and I plan on calling CIC after the weekend to hopefully discuss getting this sorted out. It's incredibly unfair to take so long that there isn't enough time for me to re-send my application and to give me no time to restore my status.

  • Does anyone here have any information about this?
  • Can I not just send the application back with the appropriate fixes? (it doesn't mention that in the application)
  • Is there anything I can do other than giving them a call?
  • Do you think they'll let me re-apply?

I'm incredibly confused and upset. I'm currently trying to put together as much information to explain to CIC.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
