Hello everyone, I am a little bit confused about the work permit in Canada. Things got mixed up

Right now I'm studying in Canada and my program is 10 month long. So I will have a 10 months of Post Grad Work Permit later. However, what about after the PGWP expires? I don't think I will be qualified for CEC and Federal Skilled Worker since I will be a recent graduate with less than 1 year of work experience? This means I can't obtain a work permit after the PGWP even I have a job offer? Can I apply for Express Entry supposing that I have a positive LMIA ?

Is a job and stay in Quebec more possible for me (I can speak French and have DELF score)

Thank you so much for enlightening me! :)

You would need to have an approved LMIA and a job offer in order to extend your work permit. Note that LMIA are difficult to get and take months to process. So you should start looking for an employer very soon after you graduate who is willing to go through the LMIA process.

Quebec has not yet rolled out its PNP alligned with express entry yet so its not clear if u will be able to apply there or not. as for express entry goes if u indicate u have an LMIA then u have to prove it ..its not just a check box . u get 600 points for LMIA based job offer so all proof is needed. considering ur situation I believe and in my opinion ur best option is to do another post graduate course so u get 3 years PGWP and not 1 year or 10 months. that would be ur safest option. however u could wait for other opinions on this forum and decide.

Thanks Scella, I will start looking for job offer with LMIA possibility right after my graduation!

Supposing that I got my LMIA, does that mean I have nothing to do with Express Entry until my work experience is at least 1 year (10 months PGWP+ 2 months of the work permit) in order to be eligible for CEC?

Am I correct that express entry, federal skilled worker, CEC are for PR and have nothing to do with the work permit? And for the work permit I need a positive LMIA ?

Sorry I have a lot of questions. Thank you!

" its not clear if u will be able to apply there or not", you mean apply for PR? I think right now I should focus on the work permit after my PGWP expires. I took an eligibility test for the work permit in Quebec and it says I may be eligible for the work permit in Quebec if I have a job offer from there.

I know LMIA is hard to get and I need to prove when entering express entry for PR. I just want to know what I should do step by step or how many options are available so that I can have my goals set! :)

Thank you Mead
