Work full-time while waiting for result of Post-Graduation Work Permit Program

Hi everyone,

If anyone has been in my case before please give me some advice. I study 2yrs Accounting co-op program and I am having my final co-op now. After I finish this coop term I will be eligible to graduate. I can only applied for my PGWPP after I get my Graduate Certificate or letter the college official confirm that I eligible to graduate. And that will be after Dec 2019, I will received these letter. The problem is my employer may hire a permanent position for my current coop accountant position now and I don't want to pass this chance in order to work full time in Canada. I still have my work-permit and it will expired on Aug 2020. I don't know if I can work full-time while waiting for my PGWPP or I have to wait until I got my post-graduate work permit. I read on Canada.com about this issue:

Can I apply for a job before I get my post-graduation work permit?
Yes, but only if you:

  • were a full-time student at a designated learning institution (DLI) in a post-secondary academic, vocational or professional training program,
  • already completed your program of study, and
  • didn't exceed the number of hours you could work on and off-campus.
If we refuse your post-graduation work permit, you must stop working immediately."

and
"

Can I work while I am waiting to receive my post-graduation work permit?
You can work full-time while waiting for a decision on your post-graduation work permit application if, at the time you submitted your application, you:

  • had a valid study permit,
  • had completed your program of study,
  • were eligible to work off-campus without a permit, and
  • did not work off-campus more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions."

As above, it said that I can work but it is pretty confuse: if we about to graduate then how it have the condition of "didn't exceed the number of hours you could work on and off-campus." and "did not work off-campus more than 20 hours a week during academic sessions." . Is this answer for a "graduate student" or for still a student on their study.

Can anyone have experienced this before?

Thank you for your reply Bs65. I read it but it look like the case is not applied to me. As I will apply for post-graduate work permit (PGWPP) when I receive my confirm letter from college.

Students who have not applied for a subsequent study or work permit or a program of study
Students may work off campus on a part-time basis if the following applies:

  • they meet the eligibility criteria to work off campus [R186(v)]
  • they have completed the final academic requirements for their program of study but have not yet received written confirmation of program completion from their institution (for instance, a transcript, an official letter or an email)
  • they have not applied for a work permit (for instance, a post-graduation work permit or a work permit with a valid Labour Market Impact Assessment) or a study permit extension or enrolled in a subsequent program of study"
In my case: that is the time between waiting for my work-permit can I be able to work full-time. Anyway, thank you so much. I want to ask that is it possible for us to call CIC or contact by email to ask about these kind of problem. Thank you
