Work experience in Canada - Letter

On the checklist for the CEC application, under the work experience in Canada section it requests "up to date letters of reference from you past and current employers for the 3 years"

I've been working in Canada for just over 18 months so does that mean I need a letter of reference from my old job back in the UK? If so why is this under a section called "Work experience in Canada"?

If someone could shed some light on this I'd greatly appreciate it.
