Work contracts - urgent

I read on cic check list that they MAY want work contract and pay slips as additional documents .... is it a must we have them ? might they ask for it as a must ? what if i lost the work contract ?

The worst case is that they call you in for an interview, and at that time you would need to have all the documentation. I am not sure about work contracts though.
