Hi Members,

I have a question to ask all experts, within what time frame it is mandatory to surrender my Indian Passport?
I recently took Oath, and I am waiting for my Citizenship Certificate.

What is the next best thing to do?
Once I get the Citizenship Certificate, shall I apply for Canadian Passport? or shall I first surrender my Indian Passport?

Lets assume, I apply for the Canadian Passport, do I wait for the passport to arrive and then apply for Surrender of Indian Passport or can I do this the next day after applying for my Canadian Passport? Is the Canadian Passport mandatory for the Surrender Application in Toronto?

Another question, if I get the Canadian Passport, can I travel on that passport before I surrender the Indian Passport? or No, I have to surrender first and then I can only travel on my Canadian Passport. (There is work urgency hence this question)

Worst case, if I cant travel before I surrender my Indian passport, can I travel the day I submit my application to do so? or do I wait for the Surrender Certificate to arrive?

Sorry for these confusing questions. I hope I can clarity on the above matter.

Thanks members.

You can apply for a Canadian passport immediately after receiving your certificate. To surrender your Indian Passport, you don't need a Canadian passport, but have to provide a letter / undertaking confirming that you DO NOT have a Canadian passport yet. You can travel anywhere after getting your Canadian passport, just don't use your Indian Passport for travel before surrendering it. Travelling on your Canadian passport is not linked to the surrender of your Indian Passport. You can also apply for an Indian visa on the same day as you submit a cancellation application.

You can surrender your Indian PP within three years of acquiring another citizenship without any penalty, provided you haven't used it for travel.
