hello everyone,

I am in a serious dilemma and I need help. I am in the US on a F1 active statuts (but the stamp on my visa is expired) pursuing my dream program in a great university. I also have a pending asylum application in the US due to domestic violence. I received a request to submit my passport and get my PR a week ago, and I was planning on renewing my F1 visa and withdrawing my asylum application since my situation has changed. The problem is, lawyers told me that I will not be eligible to renew my F1 visa if I decide to live the US (as they will count my asylum application as an immigration intent). I am seriously considering withdrawing my PR application since there is no way for me to leave the program I am in ( it is a very competitive program in an elite university).

What are the consequences of withdrawing my PR application at this point ? Would I be eligible to reapply ? Would that be considered a “black mark” on my record in Canada ? How long should I wait before reapplying?

Please guys, I am in a such dilemma. Every opinion is welcome. In need of a serious advice. Thank you

You can withdraw your PR application and apply without prejudice later on although it sounds like you intend to remain in the US.
