Are they really that strict when it comes to health? do you think having a TB history 10yrs ago (cured now) will affect the medical? a friend of mine applied to WalMart a year ago, was able to pass the initial interview and was asked to do the medical before going thru the final interview. during the xray, they found a scar in her lungs (not surprisingly) and asked her to go to a certain authorized doctor to check if she is clear enough for her medical. she did go and was told by the doctor thats shes cleared and that there is no indication of any active tb virus in her. however, she still wasnt choosen for final interview. Her guess, because of her TB history.

what do you think guys?

thanks

Yes they are that strict with medical history but please note the following: If you can be certified as non-contagious then, under family class if you are a spouse it will not be held against you. But then, I doubt it was what caused your friend to not be offered a position at Walmart.

TB is so rare here that it strikes me as odd that you have a friend who also has it.

Hi there again.. I am actually asking on her behalf. I don't have it and I am actually here in Canada. Passed my medical without any problem. I just happen to read other posts regarding failing medicals and affects the application of the principal. Sorry if my post is a bit confusing. And thanks for the reply.

As tgchi13 said, lung scarring that can be certified as non-contagious is not a problem for family sponsorships. My partner has scarring too from a childhood case of TB, and he actually became a PR as a skilled worker in Quebec way back in the day.

How ridiculous that you need a chest X-ray to work at Wal-Mart!

Back to the topic - CIC is not strict at all when it comes to health for applicants who are being sponsored as spouses/common-law partners/conjugal partners. An applicant can be HIV+ and still be accepted. If the applicant has active TB, the DMP will want them to be treated and retested, but they can not be rejected just for this. I tested positive for TB myself, and every time I went to the TB clinic here in Saskatoon, the place was full of recent immigrants. It's more likely that they had caught the illness before arriving than that they all caught it here.

xray is part of the medical/physical tests given to applicants applying for a workers permit in Philippines. Walmart actually recruited (through an agency) some of their employees in Philippines. a lot of company do that, not to mention Mcdonalds and wendy's.. but as my friend have said, they were asked to have their medical exam first before the final interview. i guess the employer is making sure that they will not incur any delay when doing their final selection of applicants. there are some cases where applicant passed all interviews, initial, panel and final, exams, and only to find out in the end that the applicant did not pass his/her medical.

Workers coming from another country do have to 'pass' a medical. But a spouse or partner applying under family class does not, so the original poster shouldn't have to worry about a case of cured TB.
