Quickies on "Ontario"
1. Every year around "half the people" who choose Canadian Immigration land-up in Ontario.
2. In 2009, of the 252,179 Canadian PRs, 106,867 moved to Ontario. This makes Ontario the most diverse of all the provinces.
3. Ontario is the most populous Canadian province with over 13 million people.
4. 90% of Ontarians live within 200 km of the US border/s.
5. The largest concentration of people, around 8 million, live in the “Golden Horseshoe” (Toronto, Hamilton and Niagara Falls).
6. Toronto's population is 2.5 million, with a further 2 million located in the GTA. Total: 4.5 million!!!
7. Ontario covers over 1 million Sq. Kms (415,000 sq. miles), which is "larger than" France & Spain combined.
8. There are over a quarter of million lakes in Ontario and along with rivers and streams they hold "one-third of the world's fresh water" approx.
9. Ontario has over 16,500 Kms (10,253 miles) of highways linking it's cities & towns including the US.
10. Highway 401 is one of the busiest roads in the world with it's larger part running through the GTA carrying around 400,000 vehicles every day.
11. Ontario also has over 60 airports providing both passenger and freight service to the rest of North America and the world.
12. The busiest airport in Canada is Toronto's Pearson International which handles over 32 million passengers a year and over 480,000 metric tonnes of cargo.
13. Close to 40% of the North American (including the US) population is within "a day's drive" of Southern Ontario.
