Will passport renewal make my study permit invalid?

Hi, everyone.

My Study Permit Expires in Jan 2017, my passport expires in April 2017. Since I'm expecting to get the confirmation from the university this June to be able to go ahead applying for work permit, I'm thinking about renewing my passport now so that I can get my three-year work permit on my new passport, saving the hassle of applying my work permit again next year.

The problem is I also heard if you get a new passport you will need a new study permit, and without a valid study permit you can't apply for a work permit.

I'm wondering if I renew my passport now, will I have to renew my study permit again even if technically it is not expired until next year? If so it makes no sense to renew my passport now. I need to fly to Toronto to renew my passport, so I really want to make sure if I'm doing the right thing.

1. Your study permit (or any visa) is still valid upto its expiry even if you put passport on renewal.
2. You need a valid passport and a study permit for any work permit application.

Just wanted to know if you have renewed your passport and how did you manage about your study permit. Because i am in same situation now

Hi All,

As much as I know, you can renew your passport within expiry of 1-year. Whenever you will apply for PGWP, you must have valid study permit and valid passport. If you forgot to apply for your PGWP within expiry of 90 days of your study permit, you will get refusal.
