Hi All,

I (US Citizen) and my husband (Canadian Citizen) are applying for my PR status in Canada. We are wondering if the papers and documents (photos, cards, etc) that we send in with our PR application will be returned to us. What say ye oh wise ones?

Thanks! :D

The honest answer...maybe.

It's strongly advised to send photocopies of cards and photographs, while retaining the originals, whenever possible. As you will see from the checklist, there are few items that need to be an original.

Good luck!

They didn't send most of our proofs back. They kept all of our photographs and most of the letters/cards, but sent back two random Christmas cards from cousins. We thought it was a bit odd, but we weren't really expecting to get anything returned.

I think *I THINK* that if you apply outland you have a chance of getting your proofs back (or at least some of them) but INLANDERS do not receive anything back...

It's not clear if you pretend to apply inland or outland

As said above, just send photocopies of your proofs so that CIC doesn't need to send anything back. There is no need to include original cards, photos etc.

Yeah, they would need to keep that with your immigration file but the other documents not so necessary.

I think, as a US citizen, photocopies of everything is acceptable, then you won't have to worry about getting your originals back. For those who are NOT from the US, you really need to read your country specific guide to see what is acceptable in your case as each country differs. I think it really depends on each VO whether or not you get your articles back. Perhaps there is an option to 'request' these things back after you have landed? I don't know but it certainly can't hurt to try! ;D
