Will my daughter be a Canadian?

Hi everyone,

I'll be giving birth anytime soon. My partner is a Canadian citizen and I'm a Filipino. We are not married though. Will my daughter be Canadian citizen instantly? Or we have to get a citizenship certification? Can we get a birth certificate in Canada even if I give birth here in the Philippines?

The child will not get a Canadian birth certificate if born in Philippines. If your partner was born in Canada (Canadian born) or naturalized Canadian citizen, then your child will be Canadian citizen once born. You only need to submit application for proof of Canadian citizenship (Canadian Citizenship certificate). Being unmarried has no bearing on ability to pass on citizenship.
