This is hypothetical at the moment but it's a topic my fiance (getting married in July) and I have been talking about for awhile and we have concerns and some of the stuff I have been reading hasn't given me an answer to our situation. There are some threads here but some are quite old and might be outdated.

I am Canadian, born in Ontario, my fiance lives in Manila Philippines if I were to go there in July get married and she gets pregnant and gives birth after we married what is the status of our child? Is he a Canadian citizen only needing to apply for "Citizenship Certificate" then a passport to be able to move here to Canada when my then wife has her PR Visa or do I need to sponsor my child as well and apply for Family Class Visa for him/her?

Thank you in advanced for any insight you might be able to share.

Yes, your child would be a Canadian citizen by descent from you and also a Filipino citizen through his mother (assuming she is a citizen of the Philippines).

Congratulations... You have just become a father of a Canadian citizen child... Well, looking back from future...

Jokes apart, you are all good... Ur child will be canadian citizen by descent...

Going further into future, your child's child ( your grand child) will not be canadian citizen if not born on canadian soil. Considering your foresight, i thought you might be interested.

Thank you for all your replies, we both want to have 1 child and soon due to our age but was worried that we'd have to go through the long process of family sponsorship rather than the shorter process of the Citizenship Certificate. Brought a smile to both our faces. :D
