Hi Everyone,

This question is actually about my boyfriend. He has been living in Canada for the past 7 years on student visa, then work permits. He applied for PR 15 months ago. During that time he applied to re-new his work permit before it expired, however, while he was waiting for his new work permit the price of the application had changed, so instead of calling him to get the rest of the money, they sent back his application as in-complete. He completed his application properly and applied to restore his status within the 90 days he was given. He was worried that he would have to leave Canada right away, so he called immigration and they told him he did not have to leave the country while waiting for his status to be restored, except now he is unable to work. He has been out of work for the past 6 months, living off of savings. He has a condo here, a car, a driver's license, his life is here. He had to travel to the US last week and is planning on returning to Canada next Monday. Is he going to be denied re-entry since he does not have his PR yet and his status has yet to be restore? He has paid his "right of permanent residency" fee already and has done all of his finger prints and police reports. He took all of his paperwork and applications and receipts of payment, old work permits, etc. new and old passports. Copies of the finger prints as well as police reports with him so he can show the customs officers when he returns. He is a UK citizen so I am not sure how that will effect this whole process.

Any insight on this topic will help :D

Hi - I have a very similar situation ....
Expired permit ... Had to restore status as a visitor (the company decided not to apply for another LMIA as we were expecting my PR to be done in the summer!!!!
I am same - living on savings ... Just waiting.
I drove into the states on my visitor permit, no issues when I came back into Canada.
I did consult my lawyer to check - and she said it's really at their discretion - they may ask for proof of funds (that you are able to support yourself while in Canada as a 'visitor' ... She said they might question me for details of status of application etc.
when I actually did come back - just looked at my passport and visitor visa and waived me straight through, didn't ask a thing.
I'm a UK resident too. Just wanted to let you know my experience ...

Thanks for your reply! That makes me feel a little better. Except he is flying not driving so they may be a little more strict. He also did not receive his permit before leaving so I'm not even sure what his status is now. He applied to restore his status but left before anything was approved. Since he comes from a country that does not need a visa to visit canada that may save him.
