Looking for some information.

I am an American citizen who had been staying in Canada with my Canadian Citizen Wife for the past 5 months. Have not had trouble at the border in the last 6 years (did when I was 17, got denied entry in Buffalo due to lack of funds/ties to the USA and no return ticket, came back 1 year after that and no issues).

I applied for a FBI and State Name Search (type of state bgc) and they came back clean and no charges shown.

But I do have 2 arrests, 1 that was a conviction (unclassified misdemeanour for drinking under the age of 21) that according to the lawyer we hired to right a legal opinion letter is not a federal charge but provincial charge in that should not cause an issue.

Worried about the other charge though. My father and I got into a fight when I was 19 because he drunk and things got out of hand/etc. I went to court for 3rd degree Assault misdemeanour. I claimed self defence and plead not guilty. Then the prosecuting attorney/state drop the charges.

Lawyer says I am fine. I don't know if I believe it.

Basically what I am trying to find out is will they even process me to the next step, BGD, if I am inadmissible. They can see the court dockets showing the charges (but lawyer said to not add in the police report from the day of) and the disposition of dismissed charges, as well as finished probation (for the underage drinking).

I technically have only 1 conviction - underage drinking. But will just the arrest/charges that were past laid against me cause issues with IRCC. Everything is over 7-8 years old.

Your wife has already posted numerous times and received quite a bit of advice. You aren't going to hear anything different. You will just need to wait and see.
