Good Day,

Been married two years to my lovely wife. Currently I have a post-grad work permit for three years which expires Jan 2016. Previously she sponsored her child father who ditched her after five weeks and went on welfare on her. This was in 2010 when he came here. I think since then he has sponsored a spouse and kids to Canada. Are my chances good for her still sponsoring me? Welfare Collections contacted her to pay off the monies owing that he went to welfare for and she did pay it off in 2010. Anyone got experience with this issue?

Thanks..

If she owes no money to Canada for the ex, there should be no problem with her applying to sponsor you on that issue.

If you have sponsored relatives to come to Canada in the past, and they have later asked the government for financial help, you may not be allowed to sponsor another person. Sponsorship is a big commitment, so you must take it seriously.

You may not be eligible to be a sponsor if you:

did not meet the terms of a sponsorship agreement in the past,

Thanks for the prompt reply. So don't worry about what is quoted above?

If she has repaid all the required welfare payments and is no longer in default, I don't believe that there is a problem.
