WHP questions re: how soon can you apply and logistics of medical assessment

Hi guys,

I am an Australian currently living in Canada. I am on my first WHP visa and about to apply for my second. I have a few questions:

1. On the WHP website it states that they can only receive my documents within 12 weeks of the expiry of my current visa, however it does not stipulate exactly what this timeline means. Does anyone know whether this refers to the initial stage 1 application where we are required to scan and upload passport photo page and pay for fee? Or does this refer to the second stage where traffic history printout and criminal checks need to be provided? I would like to apply as soon as I am allowed to in order to ensure I get my visa before the old one runs out, but I don't want to apply sooner than I am allowed and create potential issues.

2. I work in healthcare and require a medical exam as part of the application. At what point in the application does this need to be completed and does this add any extra time to the application? There is very little information written on the internet about this topic!

Thanks everyone for your help!

1. 12 weeks prior to the expiry of your work permit for the first stage.
2. If you are working in health care, you should have already had a medical. If you haven't contact a panel physician and have an "upfront medical"

Thanks for your reply! What is a panel physician?? I did have a medical for my first WHP application, but i know i need to get a new medical assessment for a new application to the IEC WHP program. I was under the impression that as with my initial application that i needed to wait until CIC sent me the forms for the medical assessment, before getting this done, therefore this would occur part way through the application. Also i remember the dr filled out the form that i gave him (that was supplied by CIC) and he sent it to somewhere specific (i never got to see it again)...so if i get a medical before i do the application, i won't have any forms to give or address for sending the results, which makes me concerned that this is not the way it's meant to be done. It seems as if there have been a lot of changes to this process since 2 years ago!

If you already had a medical by a panel physician, which it appears you have already have done your medical is still valid. Then you don't need a new one, unless you have lived for 6 months in a designated country outside Canada, since the medical.
