Hi all, im waiting for an LMO approval in Alberta for 7 weeks now and im just wondering who is responsible for all the travel expenses (Europe to Canada)? Is it employee or employer? All my friends got it paid by an employer but mine mentioned on an interview that all i have to pay is an airfare and my work permit after receiving a positive LMO.
Other thing i would like to know is how long can be the processed time for an LMO in Alberta (mine is for Grande Prairie)?
Thx a lot!

It depends what arrangements you have made with your employer. Sometimes the employer pays. Sometimes the employee pays.

IT depends on what offer you have got from ur Employer. Ideally the Employer should pay for the travelling. But this point should be clearly mentioned in ur offer letter.

For jobs under NOC C & D (low skilled jobs) it is the employer's responsibility to bear the cost of return airfare for the prospective employee. For skilled jobs under NOC O, A & B it would depend on the contract you have with your employer, however it is not mandatory under law to provide for return airfare for jobs under skilled categories.

just speaking my mind out...

as for me; even if i am an employee. the hurdle and burden for the noc c and d employer is exhaustive on their part to shoulder the airfare back and forth esp. if the employee have a second thought and not even finishing the contract and afford to transfer to other employer without the conscience and ungratefulness to look for the welfare of an employer who sponsor for employment.

justifyable transfer will only be considered if there is already a violation done by the employer that must is arbitrated by the cic since it under their program. in this way it will become a fair and square deal for both parties. i feel sorry to read some predicament of an employer who infuse all their time, effort and resources to some; i repeat to some who have no heart of making the employer a stepping stone for their own good and benefit.

just a piece of my mind taking part on each and everyone's welfare and benefit.

Hi there, i am under NOC C & D (low skilled jobs) and i cannot find anywhere online if its mandatory for an employer to pay the airfare or no, i mean i dont mind to pay if he gets me a job but i also dont have a good feeling about spending over $1000 just before i start to work + i need to find my own accommodation as the employer doesnt provide one so thats another average of $1000 = thats $2000 before actually starting the job... so like this all the risk from this procedure is on me, if they fire for some reason (which never happened to me before) then im already in minus $2000... :( :( :(

Once you have the contract from your employer it will have the clause of the cost of return airfare being borne by the employer.

Yes Astasi is absolutely right.
Everything will be clearly mentioned in the Employer Contract and some times in the LMO also.. they mention the salary / hr offered and the benefits given to the Employee.

Page 4 on this doc states the employer's responsibility for travel expenses and I have seen it in other government sites. NOC C/D.
