I would like to gather people like me and share experience.

I have sent my out land application in 23 May
My received my SA on 15 June
Landed Canada on 2 July with 6 months visitor visa (stamp on passport)
received my PPR on 9 Aug
sent my passport on 12th

Many people told me this is only the start of waiting..i am worried.

Now I'm waiting and can't do anything here, I"m thinking can I extend my visitor visa and try to apply for a temp work permit.
I was a professional working in an American company the past 4 years in my home country and I would like to try job hunting in Canada for similar position, with an offer letter, can I apply for a work permit while I'm a visitor who is waiting for the PR to be approved?

Please join us and share your story, I'm getting a bit anxious and cant wait to start a normal life here. Hope I can hear some advices here.

You are correct that it is only te begining. Beijing always asks for the passport immediately. This is I'd assume so people don't so what you did (get a travel visa to land in Canada before the PR process is completed). From what I've read, some people get lucky here and get their visas within a few months.
Is strongly regret not doing what you did. That is, getting my wife the travel visa and applying inland. It seems by doing things the 'recommended' way, you get screwed!!!! Now, my wife is being subjected to extra security screening because, well, she went on a couple of business trips ten years ago. Basically, anything to prolong the process. Now we will likely be separated unless a miracle transpires in the next 4 months.

Makes me wonder if those corrupt Chinese govt officials get the same scrutiny after they make their "investment“ immigration bids?

The waiting sucks.

To apply for a work permit, you need to first find an employer who either has, or is willing to apply for, a Labour Market Opinion (LMO), which is basically permission from the government to hire a foreigner instead of a Canadian citizen or PR. Be aware that it is actually very difficult to find an employer willing to go through the process of hiring a temporary foreign worker. Many people search for months or even years without success.

Sorry but you can not apply for an open work permit if you are an outland applicant. However if you have no issues, you should receive your PRC by early 2014 and then you can apply for employment, so just be patient

Oh, dont be so negative, I'm sure I'm not screwed! haha, I believe after sending passport is the final step and maybe the worse case I need to wait for another 6 to 8 months before I get my PR but still reasonable, I know I can also extend my stay as a visitor here just I cannot work, this is the only thing. I have saving so that's why I chose to wait in Canada even tho I applied outland. That is reasonable too as ourland is much faster than inland. I do not need to get a travel visa to come to Canada, my passport allow me to stay here 6 month visa free. I applied through Bj office only because I worked in Shanghai the past 4 years. I'm not from China. Good luck to you and your wife.

Hi Chala,

so you have already got the PR or still waiting? Yea I assume that I should be able to receive my PR around late 13 to early 14. Within this period, I guess I should not leave Canada right? I have my return ticket in Nov and thinking should I go back but since last time when I entered Canada in July, it was a little bit difficult, they asked so many questions. If I enter Canada in such a short time again, it may cause a problem to them.

hey kkbaggio ,

I'm planning to do SS in next year and I'm from HK. :)
Are you doing outland SS ? because I m thinking whether apply in-Canada or outland. :'(
Is it applying through HKSAR office is faster than apply in-Canada?

One silly question, what is the meaning of "PPR"? is landing paper?

thank you for your sharing

Hi vivi,

Yes, I applied though outside Canada as this will be faster, you can check process time at the link below. Actually HK and BEIJING will be the same according to the table on that link, Beijing used to be a month faster. But applying inland will allow you to apply for open work permit at the same time. If you want to come to Canada next year, maybe you can apply for outland now, so by the time your PR approved, its almost the time you want to land.

Outland - 26 days for the first stage *your sponsor approval (SA) * 9 months for stage 2 Assessment of Person Being Sponsored (applicant, you)
inland - 10 months for the first stage *your sponsor approval (SA) 8 months for stage 2 Assessment of Person Being Sponsored (applicant, you)

PPR is passport request. ;)
