Hi all,

we are reaching Montreal from Bangalore , India with family(4 members). Kindly suggest good airlines. as per my research below are the prioritized list

1. British Airlines( offering baggage allowance of 23+23(Check-In for each person ) + 23+23 cabin luggage.
2. Emirates
3. Lufthansa

Please help with your views..

Thanks

In my experience :

1. Emirates & Etihad tend to be the most expensive to YYZ

2. I've got good fares on KLM and Jet Airways from India.

3. I haven't travelled personally but know people who have rated Saudia very good. It has direct flights from Jeddah and Egypt Air which flies dir from Cairo to YYZ.

4. I've travelled on EK, EY, Jet and KLM but prefer Jet and KLM as they have a break in Europe which is almost mid-way. Great to break the journey for 3-4 hours as against a direct flight of 12-13 hrs.

5. For Montreal probably KLM would be a good option. Check Qatar Airways. I think they fly to Montreal.

Recently my Father travelled in Qatar to Montreal but from Hyderabad though. The experience was great and he got a good deal on Round trip.

thanks to replies. can someone throw light on luggage allowance please. as of now British airlines seems to be good.

when I read your comment re hand baggage on BA at first I did not believe it as generally max tends to be 7-10 KG but looking at the BA site thats what it says although fitting 23kg into a carry on bag might be a challenge plus one bag can only be laptop size and thats a pretty big laptop at 23kgs. http://www.britishairways.com/en-gb/information/baggage-essentials/hand-baggage-allowances

More worrying though would be sitting near anyone with 2x23 kg in an over head locker should the items fall down given even a 7-10kg item would hurt and a 23kg could be fatal . My assumption would be though that overweight carry on would need to go under seat anyway to avoid such a situation and gets tagged as such at checkin so what yo gain on luggage allowance you lose on space at your seat.

i have actually used british airways with 23kg hand carry... it goes in overhead locker...
i dont personally like british airways as their aircrafts are quite old and uncomfortable..... TBH that might not be the case actually coz i'm spoilt by emirates lol...

KLM i used once recently - pretty decent flight. for fares just use cleartrip or makemytrip or yatra or whatever...

Baggage allowance is the same at 23 kgs (50 pounds) x 2 pieces.

Personally, I enjoy flying on Emirates although KLM isn't too bad either (I don't like Schiphol though)

Hi thestunner,

so, is it 2* 23kg (each) in check -In and 2*23kg(each) in cabin luggage is it ? finally got someone who travelled with BA.

thanks

Hi Bryanna,

are you saying KLM also offers 2*23kg check in and 2*23kg cabin ? couldnt locate in their websites. :-(

Hi,

I'm surprised to know that BA allowed 23 kgs as cabin baggage. They normally do not allow more than 7-10 kgs (laptop + purse/handbag + coat/jacket).

No, KLM/Delta does not allow 2 pieces of 23 kgs each as cabin baggage. Neither does Emirates nor Lufthansa

Cheers

No one allows 23 kg as carry on baggage. Imagine walking to the plane with 46 kgs in your hand. EK is most generous at about 10 kegs pretty much as carry on.

@CSGB, did you travel.
As someone put it here earlier, Qatar Airways is a nice option. They fly directly from Qatar to Montreal. And I'm sure they have connecting flights from Bangalore.

And I have known my friends who use the Qatar Airways option and get free Hotel stay and food with transit visa, due to the connecting flight time difference. :)

Thanks,
