Hello everyone,

I am currently in Canada living with my girlfriend for a few months. Is it possible as an Visitor from Germany to register my current location as a second residence that I could claim that later on as an official live together with my girlfriend for the 'common in law' application?

Thank you in advance for the help

Flo

For "common law" relationship, the two of you should have lived together for at least one year. To prove this, you would need some or all of the following:
- Joint bank accounts showing both partners operating the account
- Utility bills (phone, heating etc)
- Mail/letters addressed to you and your spouse arriving at the same address
...and several other proofs such as photographs etc.

There is no process where one can "register" an address as a second residence.

Agree. Just get proof you are living with her. You do not need to register this in Canada. In Canada common-law status is something you get automatically if you live together for a certain period of time in a conjugal relationship.

Although, once you have reached the 1 year mark, You should go down to a notary office and sign a declaration of common-law.
Its like a legal document.
Its a huge piece of evidence, that should be sent in along with your joint accounts, leases, etc.
