I would not put too much weight on the Canadian pension plan. First of all, even at current payout rates, it isn't very much money - certainly not enough to live well on. Secondly, Canada's population is aging and this is expected to place strain on the pension plan. This means that payouts in the future will likely be lower than they are today. Don't count on the pension plan to support you in old age. You'll need your own savings.
