When will I have access to the Health system?

Hey,
I’m landing in Canada in October. I know that I have to apply to get my health card, but before that, as a PR, will I already have access to the health system?

Will you also be moving to that province permanently? Will you be remaining in that province for up to the next 12 months? To qualify for healthcare you also have to be planning on meeting the residency requirement to qualify for healthcare in that province. If you don’t plan on meeting the residency requirement you should not be applying for a health card. Applying for a health card if you know you won’t meet your residency requirement would be healthcare fraud and you could be asked to pay back any healthcare used if you did get a card use it and leave without meeting the residency requirement. Would add that Canada often has wait times to access care so also depends on what healthcare you are needing soon after arrival.
