When to apply for citizenship

Hi,
I read some of the posts here that it is good to wait for some time after one completes 1095 days (current law) to be on safe side. I want to understand why this is recommended (and consequences if not done) and how much time to wait after completing 1095 days?

The answer is : Whenever you feel ready !

1095 + 1 is the minimum required number of days, so technically, you can apply as soon as you have fulfilled the requirement as long as you can show that you really did!

Some people prefer to keep a buffer zone to make sure that they are safe, but this doesn't seem to make the application easier, I would say, whenever you feel safe to apply, you should apply, just make sure that you sign the application at least on the 1096th day of physical residence.

It's recommended if you're not 100% sure of your travel dates (i.e. days outside of Canada).

I agree. Wait only if you are unsure of the 1095 days. I applied on the 1096th day and my application is i process now. The good thing about my travel history is that i did not travel outside Canada in the last 3 years.

Well, I did travel during last 3 years but i have all the records and dates on which I travel so I can precisely calculate 1095 days. I can wait week or two more in anticipation of this new law which can be valid any time. My 1095 days will be in June.

If you travelled during last 3 years, you can not have 1095 days (365 days *3) of residency in Canada, If you plan to apply now before you complete your residency obligation under the current rules, your application is going to be denied.

If your days will be completed in June, apply asap if the old rules are still followed at that time.

If the new rules comes in effect by June then wait till June 2015 to Apply.

I will have 1095 days by March 27th... I travelled 2 times in for a month first 2 years in my 4 years.. Only prrof of my travel is they have seal in my passport that I reached India and back to Canada on this date for 2 times... would that be good enough.. Do you guys think I should apply by april 5th??? 8 days extra???

I applied when i accumulated 1100 days (5 xtra days) , I also travelled once 2 india for 4 weeks and once to US for a weekend.

so if the requirement of 1095 days is still in place when you want to send your application, go for it.

What a coincidence... Looks like you are in Saskatchewan and same here and guess what again I can apply on March 27/2014 and I plan to drop the application in the mail on March 31/2014 (Monday)...
