When does PGWP time start counting?

If you study for 1 year, thus being eligible for 1 year PGWP, then apply to the PGWP, let's say, in june. But the PGWP takes 4 months to process, so you only receive it in october. Will the 1 year of PGWP start counting from the day you applied, june, or will the PGWP be valid until october of the following year?
